 | | North Yorkshire Moors Railway, East Coast Main Line Festival (May 2007) (77 images)
This collection was taken on the 4th May 2007 while I was on a visit down at Whitby. The festival was organised to celebrate the East Coast Mainline's famous rail journeys.
The festival was held on the weekends of 29th April to 29th April & on the May Bank Holiday weekend between the 4th May and the 7th May 2007. I was only there from 9am until 1pm on the 4th May so I did not see all the traction that was there for the festival I/E I missed the two Deltics that where going to be there D9009 ALYCIDON & D9019 ROYAL HIGHLAND FUSILER. But never the less I had a good four hours at Grosmont on the day of my visit even though it was a very overcast grey and cold day.

Saltburn by the sea in Teeside has a listed buildings station and also has a fine Cliff Top railway there is also a Miniture Railway that is Sixty Years old this year 1947 to 2007 sadly I could not get any photo's of this owing to the severe sea mists shrowding the park on the sea front as you can see in the two photo's of the cliff top railway..

 | | Last Train to Consett (23 images)
These photo's were taken by me John Grant and Craig Oliphant of the last train to run from Newcastle to Consett on the 17th March 1984.
I was the Guard of the train from Heaton Carriage sidings to Newcastle and then on up to Consett High Yard, Craig Oliphant was one of the passengers on the train that day and after all these years I have just come across his photo's which he has given me permission to show in this gallery.The train was organised by the Derwentside Rail Action Group.
The train was double crewed by men from both Newcastle and Tyne Yard.
If anyone else out there was on this trip or was just there for the day and have any photo's of this occasion I will be only to pleased to show them on this gallery all credited to the photographer, contact me via this site.

Morpeth Staion is on the East Coast Mainline 17 miles North of Newcastle it is the first stopping point for some mainline trains going North to Scotland or South to Newcastle and beyond it is the last mainline stopping point. There about 5 mainline trains going north and 5 mainline trains going south. Morpeth is mainly served by the Northern local train service.

Blaydon Station is on the Tyne Valley line (Newcastle to Carlisle line) at one time Blaydon was quite a busy station back in the fifties it even had its own locomotive sheds. at the moment there are only about six trains serving Blaydon three either way but extra stopping trains are in the pipeline for the near future.

Berwick upon Tweed station is on the East Coast Mainline in between Newcastle and Edinburgh Station 67miles north of Newcastle and is approched from the South over the Royal Border Bridge. The Bridge was built by Robert Stephenson between 1847/1850 and was opened by Queen Victoria. it is 659 Metres Long it has 28 Arches and is 38 Metres obove the River Tweed. The Station stands in the middle of where the great hall of Berwick Castle once stood, it was the place where Robert the Bruce laid claim on 17th November 1292 to the Crown of Scotland (see plaque photo)

When I worked there it was heaving with traffic a train in or out every 3 mins now half the yard is pulled up and traffic now is about one 1/8th of what it was. I worked at Tyne Yard from its opening up until 1970 when I transfered to Newcastle.

The Heatherslaw Railway is a privatly owned 15"Guage railway on the Ford and Etal Estate in Northumberland, It was opened in 1989 and runs from Heatherslaw to Etal Village and has a return round trip of 6.4km. At the moment it has two Engines one Diesal named Clive and one Steam Engine The Lady Augusta.
They are building another steam engine on site in there own workshops and it should be in service some time in late 2007-08

Tanfield Lea Railway.
is the oldest existing railway built in 1725 to ferry coal from the pits at Marley Hill and Stanley down to the waiting ships on the River Tyne below, originally horses pulled small wagons along wooden tracks that were replaced in the 19th centuary by metal tracks and locomotives.

Tyne and Wear Metro system the first Metro system to be opened outside of London.
It was opened in 1980.
It runs inbetween Newcastle to The coast in a circular route to Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, via the Benton line and returns via the North Shields and Wallsend lines.
It also runs to the other coastal Town of South Shields, the City Of Sunderland up to Hylton and also to the Newcastle Airport.
